APT’s 17th Birthday in May 2025

8 May 2025 marks 17 years of APT + World Ovarian Cancer Day

APT’s 17th Birthday – 8 May 2025

8 May is the official day I was registered as a Fitness Professional & Personal Trainer – having completed a few months of intensive study while trying to juggle 2 little boys as a single Mum.

APT had actually already begun prior to this date. When I was studying, a few people had asked me to train them and wanted to pay me! They felt the fresh new passion and love of learning I was emitting and I surely was. Connecting and helping people move well was incredible!

After the first week of Cert 3 in Fitness study, at age 47, I felt overwhelmed and rusty. I thought perhaps I could not learn new things, as I tried to wrap my head around biomechanics of the body – names of muscles and attachments etc. But something amazing started to happen, like a clunky machine that had not been in action for quite some time, my brain started to connect into what I was learning and it gradually swung into gear – the ignition of learning again became exciting, inspiring and empowering!

In a nutshellAPT began as a mobile personal training business, worked around bringing up 2 young sons, who were my world. I juggled super early morning client training and after school drop off client training, to school pick up and sporting activities etc 6, often 7 days a week.

A couple of years in I did my Pilates Certifications, discovered the MOTR portable pilates apparatus, and was certified as a foundation Instructor with the Inventor, Darya Bronston in 2012.

In 2013 I worked extra weekly casual shifts with EFM Health Club in Hawthorn and found myself teaching Small Group Pilates Sessions, within my shift. The following year in 2014 I began my own APT Small Groups of up to 10 at Phoenix Studio in Richmond, Functional Circuit and Pilates.

In 2015 I discovered BODYART Training at the massive 3 day Filex Convention and a week later flew to Sydney to do the first ever Australian Team 1 BODYART Basic L1 Instructor training with creator Robert Steinbacher and CEO Julia Przybilka. It changed me and my business forever! I launched BODYART Classes later in 2015 at Phoenix in the Small Groups and then at Burnley Backyard, Richmond Neighbourhood Centre, a few months later. BODYART began the true healing process in my body and mind and gave me the tools and knowledge to guide and teach others to do unique healing through movement for themselves. It’s been a magical journey ever since – not without it’s rollercoaster ride – but worth every dip and crescendo!! I became a Master Trainer in 2018.

A special 10 year BODYART Celebration event is planned on 24 August: - My 60+ year history of Ballet to BODYART - cruel to kind movement - a story of hope and healing. This will be a one off beautiful event in Richmond. Register your interest here to hear first when bookings are open.

End of 2019, after 12 years, after packing and unpacking my car 34 times in one week, I decided to stop all mobile Personal Training and revamp APT to be face to face studio sessions only.  The new version of APT launched at the start of 2020 was run for just 7 weeks. It was a very considered change and I was euphoric I’d got it right and then . . . we went into lockdown!

Somehow, I was ready – in 24 hours APT was fully live online and 95% of the clients came for the ride and were happy to connect with the community they knew and an easy way to keep on moving well from home.

Out of lockdown finally, some 2 years later, BODYART moved to Studio 1 at Richmond Neighbourhood Centre on a Wed night, needing increased space to accomodate larger numbers. APT became a combination of Studio and online training as it continues to be today.

I had also discovered Anatomy in Motion and Gary Ward’s ‘What the Foot’ book – another super important layer of learning and healing from the world expert in human gait and feet. My mangled abused dancer feet are now happier than ever . . . they are such a foundation to my body, mind and grounding as a person. I presented BODYART with creator Robert Steinbacher, with the Australian Team at FILEX Conventions and at many Health Clubs including Virgin Active, Good Life and Recreation. I ran 2 BODYART Instructor Educations in Sydney and Melbourne and I created ‘Mobility Matters’ now known as SMILE – presenting it for both The Healthy Ageing Summit and COTA Australia (for ageing Australian Live Longer Live Stronger Instructors) A live online course that ran 16 times from 2020 and was offfered in person for the first time in 2024.

The LIVE online Class format developed into 3 programs – Mindful Monday and EXPRESS 30 (both 30 min sessions) and BODYART (full 60 min experience) these are I believe, the perfect time savvy recipe for anyone who wants to move well to BE well, as they age and want to live a quality independent active life with great longevity.
